Over the next couple of months, we have a lot going on at the club. First up, we have a social night with cards, then it’s our traditional Cup Day followed by the Intra Club Tournament. It will be the Christmas Party before you know it! Come along to our events we always have a wonderful time.
Cup Day It's a CPC tradition

Come along for a fun social night on Saturday 19th October. It’s all about getting together, having a wine, some nibbles and a laugh. We’ll be playing the social game of Crazy Whist which is easy to pick up.
You’ll be playing with different partners and other pairs all evening so it is a fun way to mingle…. think of rotating partners in progressive barn dance.
Jenny W and Leigh G will organise the evening.
Arrive 6.45 pm for a 7pm start with an explanation of how to play. Everyone welcome. BYO drinks, glasses and a plate to share for supper.
Gold coin contribution for prizes. Please RSVP to Leigh by using the button below.
Save the date: Saturday 30 November for our Intra Club Tournament, it will be a friendly, semi formal doubles format tournament just for club members.
The day will be designed to ensure players at any level will enjoy the game so
we encourage those who have never taken part in formal competitions to participate. Competition will be for fun not prizes.
You don’t even have to find a partner, players will be divided into 2 groups based on experience/past success. A random draw made to match a player from each group forming, in theory, well balanced teams. These doubles will then play together in all 4 games. It will be fun and at the same time a challenge. Give it a go.
More detailed information and registration will be in the included in the next newsletter. You can also email Bob if you have any questions.
Fridays are back to three games
With the return of daylight saving, it’s time to get back to the usual 3 game format on Fridays. This will commence from Friday October 11. Thanks to the openers who continue to make such an important contribution to the running of the club even on cold winter nights (and days).
To rake or not to rake?
In case you are wondering … please rake the pistes after each game. Raking reduces weeds and keeps the pistes in good playing condition. If you are already a regular raker, many thanks for your good work.
Visit by John Flynn Retirement Village
Last month. we welcomed a group from John Flynn Retirement Village to the club. They were a fun group and keen to have a go. They kindly supplied afternoon tea to share with helpers from the club. Thanks to the members who came along to help make this a successful day.
Found bottle of wine
A very nice bottle of wine was left at the wine tasting a couple of weeks ago. If it’s yours, please use the feedback button at the bottom of the newsletter to claim. Include in your message the winery and the grape variety and we’ll reunite you with your lost tipple.
Guests on Wednesdays for Seniors' Month
We are offering Come and Try Petanque as part of Seniors Month promoted by City of Boroondara. We invite seniors to the club from 10.30 - 12.30 every Wednesday in October, they do not have to register, they’ll just turn up. We already have had one guest this week.
Please be on the lookout for new faces on a Wednesday - and give them our usual warm CPC welcome.
Heads up for Monday players - yoga class
Yoga classes are about to start in the clubrooms on Mondays at noon. The timing of the class was designed not to clash with the informal play on Monday mornings and reduce pressure on car parking. Hall hires pay for maintenance and cleaning of the facility, this is another way we keep our membership fees down.
Friday cards continue
Come and play cards on the last Friday of every month from 3pm. Have fun, learn how to play - our games masters Leigh, Pam or Deidre are happy to show you how. As usual, pétanque play begins at 5.30pm or you can play cards throughout the evening as you wish. The next session is on Friday 25 October.
